I have so many conversations with teachers these days who want to put on novels that are not "problematic" or "too sad" when young adult people need these novels to process grief.
There’d be a great research project in this I reckon. Even with uni teaching I find myself hesitating - there is so much wild/beautiful/scary/dark writing I’d love to share but I do worry about triggering … also often have to rethink showing old great classic writing because it’s often racist/ablist/sexist or its writer is problematic (my loves salinger & capote!)— I don’t want it to be a nostalgia parade.
I applaud (& envy) your capricious but always usefully-weird and generative projects, and your excavation of them here. Love the cumulative-triviality writerly quote.
My project: the Queer Lit Fest and book fair today in St Kilda. I helped run one back in 1996. Felt exhilarated by the hypercharged progress. And enjoyably old.
I think it's a hard one to find. I've put it on my ebay saved searches. I discovered my copy sadly had 20 pages missing (right near the end!) but it's on Internet Archive so I could fill in the gap. I will reread Marianne Dreams - I can't remember any of it. It's like I only have room in my brain for 3 stories at any one time.

I got Marianne Dreams on eBay after my childhood love of it was reignited by the Backlisted podcast. Incredible episode on it!
